Gloria in excelsis Deo

Gregorian latin ♱ Glory be to God on high

This Gloria is Gregorian:

Gregorian chant, the central tradition of Western plainchant, a form of monophonic, unaccompanied sacred song of the Roman Catholic Church. Gregorian chant developed mainly in western and central Europe during the 9th and 10th centuries, with later additions and redactions. Although popular legend credits Pope Gregory I with inventing Gregorian chant, scholars believe that it arose from a later Carolingian synthesis of Roman chant and Gallican chant.

Unison, (no harmonies, those came later), men only alternating with women only, and all together for the last line. It's quite easy to read, and with practice we'll become adept at reading other ancient chants. The four of our voices began to synchronize and create quite a sacred effect.

Here's a video with lots of cathedral echo the Latin and English text, a pdf for all, and an mp3 you can play or download:

Gloria in excelsis Deo (Gregorian latin) (YouTube)

Gloria in excelsis Deo
et in terra pax hominibus bonae voluntatis.
Laudamus te, benedicimus te, adoramus te, glorificamus te,
gratias agimus tibi propter magnam gloriam tuam,
Domine Deus, Rex caelestis, Deus Pater omnipotens.
Domine fili unigenite, Jesu Christe,
Domine Deus, Agnus Dei, Filius patris,
Qui tollis peccata mundi, miserere nobis.
Qui tollis peccata mundi, suscipe deprecationem mostram.
Qui sedes ad dexteram Patris, miserere nobis.
Quoniam tu solus sanctus,
Tu solus Dominus,
Tu solus Altissimus, Jesu Crhiste,
Cum Cancto Spiritu in gloria Dei Patris.
Amen.
Glory be to God on high.
And on earth peace towards men of good will.
We praise Thee, we bless Thee, we worship Thee, We glorify Thee
We give thanks to Thee for Thy great glory.
O Lord God, heavenly King, God the Father almighty.
O Lord, the only-begotten Son Jesu Christ
O Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father.
Thou that takest away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us.
Thou that takest away the sins of the world, receive our prayer.
Thou that sittest at the right of the Father, have mercy upon us.
For Thou only art Holy.
Thou only art the Lord.
Thou only art the Most High, O Jesu Christ,
With the Holy Ghost, art Most High in the glory of God the Father.
Amen.

There Is A Balm In Gilead

Sung

Here are some different arrangements of this traditional African American spiritual. We can include some of these features as we develop. For now we are starting with a simple a cappella arrangement that we can learn and perform quickly.
